Meadowsweet: Found thriving along the banks of streams and ditches, this plant has clustres of tiny cream flowers. Its roots smell like and old-fasioned drug store. Caution Aviod if allergic to aspirin
Marsh mallo: The gelatinous roots of this plant which is closely related to hollyhock, were used to make the original marsh mallo confection.
Mugwart: This is one of the most common roadside plants Caution Do not use of pregnant or breastfeeding
Peppermint: Like all the mint family, peppermint han an invasive habbit in the garden but can be restrained in a pot.
Gathering
Aerial parts of meadowsweet and peppermint, and mugswart as needed. Harvest marsh mallow roots in the autumn
Remedies
After-dinner tea
As a pleasent digestive after a meal, make a pot of tea with a handful of peppermint leaves.
Indigestion Tea
Make a tea with a sprig of meadowsweet, mugwart and peppermint. Sip one or two cupfuls a day.
Soothing marsh mallow syrup
Soak about 5in of cleaned , chopped root in 2 cups water overnight. Add 1 cup sugar. Heat and stir until dissolved. Simmer for 10 mins. Strain bottle, and store. Too sooth irritation in the gut take one teaspoonful as needed.
