Anubis Empty
PostSubject: Anubis   Anubis Icon_minitimeSat Jul 28, 2007 9:53 am

Anubis is another figure of intrest to me. I have always been fascinated with him and enjoyed him.

Today he is commonly and slightly mistakenly known and classified as being the God of the Dead, and though in Early Egypty it is true that he was worshiped as the God of the Dead, he was unseated from this posistion as Osiris grew to become more popular.

Osiris is now recgonized as the Lord of the Underwold and God of the Dead. While Anubis is now seen as the God of the process of Mumification, and he watches over the process to make sure that all is done correctly. He is also seen as the guide of the souls of the dead on thier path into the afterlife.

There are varrying stories reguarding the orgins "birth" of Anubis, in later Egypt he was reguarded as being the son of Osiris, but early stories say that he was the son of of Ra and Nephthys, or Set and Nephthys and others say Heset or Bast was his mother. It is said he has a daughter Kabechet who helps him with the mumification process.

Anubis is represented by the Jackel, and is commonly known as being the Jackle-Headed god, as the Jackel is an animal that has a long standing relation to the dead, this in part is becasue they are scangers and can be seen sometimes scouting around cemeteries and feeding on the remains of the dead. They are often held to be messengers between the land of the dead and land of the living.
