English Lavender: There are more then 28 lavender species but English Lavender is the most potent for herbal medicinal purposes
Betony: With dark green leaves and spikes of lilac-pink flowers, betony combines well with other plants
Lemon Balm: A bushy plant with lemon-scented foliage and white or yellow flowers in summer, lemon balm is very attractive to bees
German chamomile: This varity of chamomile is an annual. The scented conical yellow flowers contain this plant's medicinal properties
Virginian skullcap: Handsome and particularly pest resistent, skullcap used as a headache remedy since Roman times
Gathering
Chamomile flowers as they appear. Pick aerial parts of betony, skullcap, and lemon balm as needed. Pick lavender just before the flowers open
Remedies
Tea for nervous exhaustion
To ensure peaceful sleep, make a tea with a handful of chamomile flowers and a sprig of lavender per cup of boiling water. If fresh herbs are not avilable use one teaspoon of dried herbs. Strain and drink three times a day over a period of several weeks.
Claming tonic tea
Make a pot of tea with a sprig each of betony, skullcap and lemon blam plus one lavender flower head. Fill the pot with boiling water. Drink a cup of this tea hot or cold, three times a day especially if you are feeling anxious.
