Temperance is the card that denotes balanced emotions and the poetential for a happy relationship. There is a strong desire to reconcile opposites and create a feeling of harmony.

The Latin word temperare meaning "to combine properly" describes the essence of Temperance and is symbolize by the pouring of water from one cup to another. Water, a symbol of the emotions will stagnate if it stops flowing. Equally feelings need to be allowed to flow if we are to be in equlibrium.

This card often represents an inherent conflict that needs to be resolved in a calm and peaceful way. In a difficult relationship, negotiation compromise, and cooperation are frequently required as well as the sharing of feelings. Finding a middle path and not going to extremes is the best stragegy, and moderation and patience may be needed.

The number 14 is associated with this card which suggests the need for control, if harmony is to be achived. Neagatively, Temperance indicates the blocking of creative energy and repressed emotions.
