Herbs

Valerian: Found in damp woodland, valerian has strongly thereputic armomatic roots. Caution: Do not use with sleep-inducing drugs.

Golden hops: As it grows, the hops will need to be supported by twining around other plants. Papery female flowers called strobiles, appear in late summer. Cautuon: Do not use if depressed.

German chamomile: Besides its medicinal properties, chamomile had traditionaly been used as a rinse to brighten fair hair

California poppy: Easily grown from seed with bright orange flowers, this poppy has a very mild and safe narcotic effect.

Gathering

Chamomile flowers as they open. Pick parts of popp as needed. Pick hop flowers when they appear, and harved valerian root in autumn.

Remedeis

Sleepy Tea

To treat insomia together with headache, restlessness, and digestive upsets, make a bedtime drink with a teaspoon of dried chamomile flowers and two or three hop flowers to a cup of boiling water

Deep-Sleep decoction

If insomia persists, make a deconition useing a teaspoon of dried valerian root to 3/4 cup of water. Add a teaspoon of chamomile flowers. Strain. If in pain add one teaspoon of dried poppy.
