Shadow Magick is a very ancient form of magick. There is a metaphysical connection between the shadow and the body (or object) that casts the shadow. In ancient Egypt the shadow was beleived to be a portion of the soul itself. In Egypt there was the beleif that the body have seven souls and Khaibit was the Shadow soul.

The ancient Etruscans beleived that a portion of each human survied in a shadow-like form, which the called Hinthial. The Hinthail was said to live in or around the tomb of burrial site of the body from which it had come form.

There is an old legend called the Legend of Intailo which tales of an enitity that takes on the form of a shadow and terroizes any whom he chooses as a target.

Traditionaly in the Italian Witchcraft tradition Shadows symbolize a power animal which were cast upon an object or person to give that person or object the nature of the animal. This is beleived to be the earliest form of spell casting, and could be the orgins of the phrase spell casting as in chasting a shadow.

To prefrom this type of spell you must first choose a target object and then determine which animal would most likely be associated with the desired charge for which the spell is intended. For exmample you might choose a wold shadow for hunting skill or even protection of the home or personal object. Or you might choose a panther shadow for traking skill, swiftness and war magick. A rabbit shadow for fertility or a snake shadow for craftiness and so forth. A simple childerns book on casting hand shadows will demostrate the nesscary hand posistions needed to create a shadow.

Once you know how to cast the desired shadow image and you have choosen the target you are ready.

Make sure that the light is strong enough behind you so the shadow is quite clearly vissable when projected. Join your hands together so that a shapeless image is cast upon the target then begin to think about the animal form whose image you are about to case. Imagine how the animal, moves, and sounds. Picture it clearly in your mind. Imagine how you might feel to be that animal. As you do this look upon the target then slowly begin to arrange your hands into the necessary posistions so the animal image begins to appear on the target.

Once the image is clearly cast you must instruct the shadow-form about hte intent of the spell. You may either create a rhyme or chant, or simply state the intended purpose.

Once the intent if frimly established in the spell close your eyes and drop your hands to your sides. Say out loud that the spell is cast then turn away from the target and open your eyes.

Other forms of casting shadows can be used. For example a carving can be the source of the shadow, or even an image cast from a piece of stained glass cane be used. For this just light a candle behind the object so the shadow of the image is cast.

One way to use this method in form of offering personal portectiion to a person is to case the shadow of a symbol or image of porecteion of a persons, head, heart, and genitals and say

Strick charge and watch I give thee
that this person
no evil thing apporach or enter in

Once thing to keep in mind is that it is unwise to place within a target a charge of a shadow-form that are not harmonious to each other in nature. For example, a bird, and a cat shadow would not be proper.

If you wish remove a shadow charge from a choosen target, then place the shadow image on the target once again and begin to picture the animal moving away from you. Tell it to return to its own realm then slowly move your hands together allowing the shadow image to collapse. Close your yes at this point and drop your hands to your sides, then open your eyes and look to the target. Everything is now as it was before the spell was cast.
