With the Eight of Cups we are being asked to abandon what is familiar and to face our fears of the unknown. We may have given our all to an emotional situation only to discover that it has not lived up to our hopes. Our expectations are dashed and we have no choice but to move on.

The sense of disilluionment at the end of a relationship can be extremely painful, especially if we have invested all of our aspirations in it. We are forced to recgonize that something is not working and that we must leave it behind in the hope that we will find something more meaningful.

This card implies a sense of resignation, as well as accepteance that we now need to start a fresh chapter. Not matter how hard it is to face up to our circumstances, the choice to end someghing is nevertheless voluntary. We have ceased to grow and the only answer to the feeling of stasis is to walk away.
