| Here are a list of herbs known for thier medicinal properties in alliving, sore thraots, coughs, and colds.
Purple Sage: sometiumes referd to as red sage. Cautions with this plant: Avoid if epileptic and only take in small doses if pregnant.
Hyssop: A pretty plant with pink or blue flowers, it should stay in flower throughout the summer if trimmed.
Ground Ivy: Covered with armomatic lavender flowers in spring, it was once the main ingredient used to flavor ale.
Lemon Thyme: The lemmon sent and silvery leaves make it a good alternitive to regular thyme.
Silver Queen Lemon Thyme: A new varity of lemmon thyme.
Elecampane: The roots of this herb have a clearn fresh aroma just a whiff will help clear your chest.
Harvesting for medicinal use
Gather aeril parts of purple sage, hyssop thymes, and ground ivy throughout the growing season. Dry for winter use. Harvest elecampane root in autumn
Remedies
Sage Gargle: Make strong tea with a handful of sage leaves. Add a little honey and allow to cool. Strain and gargle often
Decongetant tea: Make a strandard tea with thyme, ground ivy, and hyssop. Drink at the onset of a cold or if you are congested.
Syrup for Cough: Heat 12oz sugar in 17fl oz water untill dissolved. Add too chooped elecampane roots. Heat gently. When menthos scent is evident add a handful of hyssop. Cook for two more minitues. Remove from the heat and let cool. Stran, bottle and store. Take one teaspoonful theree times a day. | |
