Morpheus is one of those gods whom there seems to be known little about and whom seems to be little mention or talk of, but he has always held a certain intrest to me.
Morpehus is the Greek god of dreams. He lies on a ebony bed in a dim-lit cave, surrounded by poppy. He appears to humans in their dreams in the shape of a man. He is responsible for shaping dreams, or giving shape to the beings which inhabit dreams.
He is said to be the son of Hypnos whom is the God of Sleep and Pasithea, who was one of the Graces, and the Goddess of rest and relaxation or hallucination.
The Roman poet Ovid suggusts that Morpheus only sends images of humans in dreams or visions, while his brothers Phobetor and Phantasos are in charge of depicting dream images of animals and inanimate objects. Together these three sons of Sleep - Morpheus, Phobetor, and Phantasos - rule the realm of dreams.
