Strega: Meaning of the word Empty
PostSubject: Strega: Meaning of the word   Strega: Meaning of the word Icon_minitimeSun Oct 14, 2007 3:00 pm

I just thought I would talk breifly a little background information about Stregheria or as it is commonly refered to as strega.

It is imporeant to remeber that enlgish is one of the few languages, that does not classify words as masculine and femimine, but many other languages do, which can be confussing, now this is relevent to strega because of the fact that litteral the word strega simply means female witch, and stregone is male witch.

The word Stregheria is the old Italian word for witchcraft.

Acutaly practioners of the Stregheria commonly refer to it instead as La Vecchia or The Old Ways.

It is beleived today, that what is now understood as Italian Witchcraft, was passed down through the generations, from the ancient Etruscans, and originaly it was very seceretive and only taught by word of mouth and was something a person was born into, they were La Vecchia, because thier mother was, and thier grandmother, and thier great grand mother, and so on.
