Many of you might be famillar with the term Otherkin some of you might even consider yourself to be an Otherkin.
Though the termonlogy is realtively knew, the concept and idea behind it is quite an old one. Otherkin are those whom walk in a human host (mortal body) but they emdoy the spirit of something other then a human. They often feel the have the traits, and charactersics of something beyound humans, and they do not feel as if they fit it in with humans. They tend to be misanthropic, and feel a close connection to nature, and animals.
Some popular examples of Otherkin inculde the vampire, of which i already wrote fairly extensivly about the Vampric lifestyle. Vampire Otherskin are those that feel the identify of Vampire triats and turly feel they are Vampire, and live a Vamprie lifestyle.
One thing it is important to remeber about Otherkin, when talking about having the traits of non-human beings, and of truly beliving they are these beings, that does not mean they think they can take on the physcial traits and qualities of these beings. They are under no delusions, they are aware of thier mortal body and the restictions it holds.
A good example of this, is another popular form of Otherkin is there Werewolf, there are many whom feel a deep connection with the wolf, and beleive they embody the spirit of the Werewolf, and call themselves Lycan.
This does not mean they truly think that on the night of a full moon they are going to physcial change into the shape of a wolf, or wolf-man beast. But they do go through a spritual and symbolic change. I have known Lycan Otherkin, and in some cases on nights when the moon is full thier personalites do change, and they become more confidaunt, and self-assure, they feel stronger and the do and say things which they would not normaly, in some cases they even think they look different when they see themselves in the mirror.
Another more common form of Otherkin is the Dragon, there are a few whom truly belive that they are human incarnates of a Dragon spritt.
Now this is just to name a few, but by no menas is Otherkin limited to this. It is also important to note, particuarly when speaking of Otherkin like Vampires and Lycan, that you have to get the notion of hollywood sterotypes out of your head. Just becasue they belive they have the traits of a vampire or werewolf, or live in a vampric or werewolf style, does not mean they become violent, or that they seek to be harmful to others. Nor does it mean they become sinsiter and evil and act in such a way. In fact in many cases Otherkin do have thier own strick codes of morals and ethcics, and a sense of right and wrong.
